What is a Pirate Funnel? A short definition.

1 minute reading time

The Pirate Funnel is a model to cut a company’s customer lifecycle into pieces and shows you what to focus on. The Pirate Funnel was developed by Dave McClure and is called the Pirate Funnel because the first letters spell out AAARRR for Awareness, Acquisition, Activation, Retention, Referral, Revenue.

The funnel is often used in product analytics to pinpoint optimization possibilities. The AARRR framework is the perfect starting point if you don’t know where to start. If you complete all AAARRR steps in a Pirate Funnel Canvas, you will see where you lose the most people.
